Community Businesses
Nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses have a lot in common,
including being regulated through federal, state, and local laws and
following some of the same basic management and operating practices.
While for-profit businesses operate for the benefit of owners and
shareholders, nonprofit organizations operate for the benefit of the
general public. As employers and service providers, partnerships between
businesses and nonprofit organizations may net very positive results
for the community and growth of local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Businesses may support the work of nonprofits by donating needed cash
and resources, as well as providing valuable promotional opportunities.
At the same time, nonprofits offer businesses an opportunity to engage
with the local community in ways that may build brand loyalty and
increase sales.
The following resources are provided to forge better communications
between the nonprofits and the businesses that serve San Mateo County.
