Assistant Property Manager - HIP Housing

As part of HIP Housing’s effort to provide affordable housing solutions in San Mateo County, we are seeking a passionate, self-motivated, experienced and credentialed professional Assistant Property Manager to join our team managing 24 housing communities in San Mateo County.

In July 2016 we launched HIP Housing Affordable Ventures, Inc., a new company affiliate of HIP Housing to manage both the apartment properties owned by HIP Housing and those contracted to manage by 3rd party ownerships. 

Our Team

Our team includes a staff of 40 with an average tenure of 10 years and a governing board of 18 - 20 Directors recruited with an emphasis on diversity of skills and interests to assist in advancing the HIP Housing mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Property Manager is responsible for assisting and supporting the Property Manager and other office co-workers in completion of daily tasks in a timely manner, keeping units occupied,   assisting in resolution of resident disputes, and staying within the budget and providing assistance to residents.  Will interface and work with company employees and outside contractors.  Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain the physical assets of the apartment properties

  • Provide work direction to property maintenance personnel and resident services staff

  • Ensure staff compliance with Company and government policies and procedures

  • Contribute as a team participant - maintain productive relationships with the community and other property management professionals, as well as with suppliers and vendors

  • Prepare and update weekly, monthly and annual reports, as requested

  • Certify and annually recertify all tenant income and assets and insure compliance with the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit or other governmental housing program requirements

  • Review all rental applications and lease forms for accuracy and compliance with HHAV, government and Fair Housing policies

  • Have knowledge and understanding of fair housing, landlord-tenant and other laws and ordinances that apply to property management

  • Maintain all tenant and property files and records ; ensure all rent collection and deposit policies are followed, and accurately maintain rent roll, resident ledger and apartment ledger

  • Ensure daily bank deposits are made and recorded;  

  • Travel between properties, as required

Preferred Qualifications

  •  High school graduate or equivalent with training in leasing, management or related activities preferred

  • 2+ years’ administrative/directional experience in property management business environment

  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and “listening” skills

  • Organized, detail oriented, able to focus, multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Must possess strong computer skills with Microsoft Windows, Gmail, Outlook, Word, and Excel; and use a telephone, copier, fax and other basic business machines

  • Must have reliable transportation, valid California driver’s license, and proof of insurance

  • Must be able to read English at a level sufficient to understand label instructions and warnings, write English at a level to write professional-looking notes to coworkers and residents, and speak English at a level to effectively communicate with residents, coworkers and vendors

  • During the workday, the Assistant Property Manager may be required to push or carry items of 25 lbs., climb ladders, kneel or twist, grasp, pull, carry, and push equipment such as boxes, carts, vacuums, brooms, or mops

Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time position, non-exempt, at-will.

  • Depending upon experience

  • Excellent benefits package including: PTO, medical, dental, vision and matched pension plan (5%)

  • Additionally, this position features alternating Friday’s off.
