CalFresh Eligibility Coordinator - Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities

The CalFresh Eligibility Coordinator is responsible for determining eligibility and enrolling SSI beneficiaries into the CALFresh (formally SNAP) benefits program. In addition, the coordinator will provide other benefits assistance to clients as instructed, as well as assistance to the Independent Living Generalist department as directed.

About CID:

Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities is a support non-profit for people with disabilities. CID's mission is to provide support services, community awareness, and systems change advocacy to promote full and equal community integration and participation for people with disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Determines Social Security Income beneficiaries eligibility for the CALFresh benefits program
2) Upon eligibility determination, enrolls clients into SNAP program
3) Effectively coordinates and communicates with other staff regarding the status of Snap enrollment and other benefit related matters
4) Provides other benefits assistance as directed
5) Complete required documentation and reporting in a timely manner
6) Maintain effective communication between inter-agency service providers to coordinate services
7) Outreach and public speaking
8) Attendance required at staff meeting and agency wide events
9) Maintenance of records in accordance to agency polices
10) All other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Personal experience with individuals with disabilities.

  • Individual must be a self-starter with the ability to assist in building a new program from the beginning.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with clients and their families, volunteers, service agencies, community partners, co-workers and supervisors.

  • Open communication is highly encouraged with supervisor, particularly with regards to conflicts or difficulties.

  • Must have the ability to work with diverse client populations, demonstrate a positive and caring attitude, be client focused; value and respect others, demonstrate ethical behavior, teamwork and collaboration.

  • Must exercise patience, understanding, and concern for each consumer’s health, safety, development, and enjoyment of life.

  • Must act as positive role model for the agency when dealing with clients and the public.

  • Must demonstrate good judgement.

  • Must possess organizational skills.

  • Excellent computer skills including the ability to learn new programs on an ongoing basis.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people including consumers, media and people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent public speaking skills, the ability to present information in clear and articulate, logical and organized manner.

  • Critical thinking and ability to develop advocacy strategies and break into manageable steps for others.

  • BA or equivalent experience.

  • At least 2 years experience in social services or advocacy setting preferably working with persons with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Personal experience as a person with a disability. Bilingual-bicultural strongly preferred.

Work Environment:

All staff at CID are responsible for adhering to the codes of conduct outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Position Details:

  1. Temporary position, PART-TIME; Fixed-Term until July 1, 2020, with possibility of extension; $19/hour

  2. Temporary position, FULL-TIME; Fixed-Term until July 1, 2020, with possibility of extension; $19/hour

Either at the San Bruno office or San Mateo office, flexible to location
