Director - SafeSpace

This position will play a strategic role in our dynamic and vibrant organization. In partnership with the SafeSpace Board of Directors and the SafeSpace Youth Board, this individual will oversee and manage the SafeSpace programs.  This individual will report directly to the SafeSpace Board.


About SafeSpace:

SafeSpace is a non-profit organization dedicated to revolutionizing youth mental health services. SafeSpace Services are focused on advocacy, anti-stigma and wellness initiatives along with efforts designed toward early intervention and prevention of mental illnesses.

The ideal leader will:

  • This person is a self-starter who is a proactive strategic thinker.

  • He/she is a risk taker who is not averse to tackling tough issues with community and school partners, SafeSpace BOD and youth board.

  • Be passionate about the SafeSpace mission and teen mental health and wellness.

  • Proven record of creating and implementing successful starter programs

  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience working with diverse populations


  • Highly effective leadership who demonstrates a fundamental respect for youth and youth-led organizations.

  • Implement coaching strategies  in order to improve the knowledge and ability of others, and respectfully holds teens accountable for their commitments and actions

  •  An innovator, capable of creating or seizing opportunities and build strategic partnerships with schools and other organizations

  • Able to effectively address overlapping projects and deadlines. Adaptable and reliable in the face of conflict, crisis, or changing priorities.

  •  Able to lead a team in managing multiple and often simultaneous tasks and in creating a work environment recognized for a high level of organization, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy and results

  • Business “literate,” understands financial reports, applies data to assess business effectiveness and efficiency and acts in a fiscally responsible manner

  • Proven record of creating and implementing successful starter programs

Core responsibilities:

  • Develop and.collaborate with the board and any other employees on the strategic plan for the organization

  • Oversee all functions of the SafeSpace Organization

  • Design, assess and  help implement SafeSpace program development initiatives, evaluation of program performance

  •  Implement the SafeSpace program in local schools and organizations in the community. Responsibilities include:

    • Cultivate and manage the 2020/2021 SafeSpace Youth Action Board  (SYAB) through interviews, training community and school outreach

  • Cultivate relationships with local organizations

  • Collaborate with the SafeSpace Board of Directors to ensure alignment with mission, values and the strategic plan

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Visionary and proactive and passionate about the youth mental issues

  • Good listener who works well with youth and young adults

  • A communicator experienced at networking and navigating school and community politics

  • Knowledgeable of the current trends in teen mental health and education

  • Organized

  • Tech-savvy

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in youth development, education, school administration, social work, from an accredited program.

  • Demonstrable and verifiable management and leadership experience.

  • Must have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with youth and multiple stakeholders

  • 10 years experience working with youth

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with underserved populations

  • Minimum 2 years non profit management experience

  • Proven record of creating and implementing successful starter programs

  • Valid CA Driver’s license, a working car, proof of auto insurance and the ability to pass a fingerprint and TB clearance is required


DOE (depends on experience)


TBD: 40 hour work week, flex hours and some evenings exempt; medical, & vacation benefits.
