The Development Manager is a full-time exempt position who is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing strategies that will cultivate donors and contributions which support the mission and goals of Family Connections. This role will be primarily responsible for creating and managing development systems, which includes donor management, research and cultivation, volunteer engagement, and stewardship. With Family Connections poised to grow its philanthropic scope, the Development Manager will be responsible for crafting longitudinal growth strategies. This position will report directly to the Executive Director and will oversee the development coordinator.

S/he will be comfortable motivating, communicating and influencing stakeholders from line staff and preschool teachers to the Family Connections Board of Directors. This position will operate with the highest levels of integrity, honesty and personal standards and ethics.
Accountable for achieving the organization’s fund development revenue target.
Develops and implements a written, time and revenue-based plan for research, identification, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation major gifts.
Leads focused growth in major gifts area, partnering closely with ED, and the Advancement Committee.
Serves as primary staff liaison for individuals and representatives of corporations and foundations for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship purposes.
Maintains his/her own portfolio of assigned donors and prospects, develops solicitation and moves management plans.
Supports the ED and Board in reaching out and following up with their prospects and donors.
Serves as the primary staff liaison for the Board’s Advancement Committee.
In concert with the Advancement Committee Chair, this position introduces new Board members to their fundraising responsibilities and ensures that they receive the support needed to be successful volunteer fundraisers.
Motivates, manages and develops talent of the Development Coordinator.
Bachelor’s degree required.
6+ years of demonstrated success and senior level responsibility in fundraising either as an employee or volunteer with a nonprofit organization or foundation.
Results-oriented: a track record of building, managing and mentoring high-performing teams that produce timely, cost-effective and high-quality results.
Team player: energetic, enthusiastic and personable who can build relationships with stakeholders, including Board members, external partners, and donors.
Team management: managing people is an important aspect that contributes to the success of this role. Mentorship, team-building, and the ability to work across organizational boundaries to achieve results are essential.
Excellent writing, verbal, analytical and research skills are required to craft and present funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.
Ability to perform across the fundraising spectrum, including corporate sponsorship, direct mail and online marketing, foundation relations, individual major gifts, prospect identification (corporate, foundation, individuals), and donor stewardship with a focus on follow through.
Must be energetic, creative, persistent, and flexible. It’s imperative that this individual possess the style, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the staff, Executive Director, Board of Directors and leadership level volunteers.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
