Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County, Inc. – Regional Supervisor

The person who holds this position will become or be a state certified ombudsman with supervisory responsibilities for a group of field ombudsman. The regional coordinator will work towards meeting the facility coverage plan within the area assigned to him/her, and will supervise/monitor the field ombudsmen in the performance of their duties.

Position Title: Regional Supervisor
Employment Status: Full Time or Part Time
Reports to: Program Manager

The Ombudsman Program in San Mateo County works to assure the protection of the residents that live in long-term care facilities through advocacy, direct intervention and education in collaboration with the service providers.

Position Summary:

The person who holds this position will become or be a state certified ombudsman with supervisory responsibilities for a group of field ombudsman. The regional coordinator will work towards meeting the facility coverage plan within the area assigned to him/her, and will supervise/monitor the field ombudsmen in the performance of their duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all federal and state requirements and local program procedures.

  • Responsible for a group of facilities in a defined geographic area

  • Together with Executive Director and Program Manager, will work towards providing adequate cover to meet facility coverage plan for the area assigned.

  • Assist with training and development of new volunteers and staff interns.

  • Supervise a team of field ombudsmen, including making assignments, monitoring to ensure program standards are met, providing technical support in the field, empowering and supporting ombudsmen in the team.

  • Ensure that all complaints received in the program from the geographic area are investigated appropriately and closed in a timely manner; that all documentation and data entry is complete prior to closing, review in ODIN

  • Provide in-service trainings to facility staff on issues related to elder abuse and elder care

  • Work with the Executive Director and Program Manager to implement the strategic plan for educating the community on long-term care issues

  • Handle complaints about field ombudsmen within his/her jurisdiction in accordance with Policy 2.6 in the Policies and Procedures Manual.

  • Participate in licensing, and survey/inspection process

  • Participate in meetings with our stakeholders, licensing, conservators, emergency services, etc.

  • Be available for phone consultation to individuals seeking help with placement

  • Participate in and encourage resident council and family council meeting

  • Assist in setting up a family council if there is an interest at a facility

Qualifications:

  • Meet state certification requirements as set by the State of California Department of Aging.

  • Certified Ombudsman

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant social or health services field, or the equivalent experience.

  • Social work experience

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the long-term care system and the rights and concerns of the elderly with that system.

  • Supervisory and training experience

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability and talent for problem resolution

  • Sufficiently computer literate to handle the state-mandated database and other necessary tasks.

  • Valid California Driver's License Required
