Peninsula Bridge – Summer Science and Computer Science (CS) Instructional Coach

The coach will collaborate with High School aged Teacher's Assistants in order to effectively plan for and teach the Computer Science and Science curriculum to students that are Rising 5th-8th grades. The teacher should be familiar with Blockly, Scratch, and other coding applications, as well as be able to train/instruct high school students in their delivery and presentation of these skills. The teacher should also be skilled at delivering lab based Science instruction. The teacher will observe and co-teach throughout the summer program at Peninsula Bridge's multiple summer sites.

For 25 years, Peninsula Bridge has been serving 420 motivated low-income youth from San Mateo to Mountain View with academic and social-emotional support. Peninsula Bridge transforms the lives of highly motivated, low-income students by preparing and supporting them for success in college preparatory high school programs and four year colleges. Peninsula Bridge is an entrepreneurial organization that is launching newly expanded programs to improve student outcomes. Our after-school academic program serves 6th and 7th grade students from San Mateo to Mountain View.

Qualities and Skills:

  • Proven excellence in teaching IT and computer science in a public school or independent school setting

  • Experience in teaching and making IT relevant and engaging for students

  • Ability to train and coach High School students

  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing

  • Effective classroom management skills

  • Ability to support students and families in a warm, engaging way

  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an understanding of youth development skills

  • Effective organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to travel and plan between multiple sites and grade levels to assure effective program implementation.

Program Days: June 22-July 26

Hours:

●      9:00 AM-3:00 PM Mondays-Fridays

●      8:00 AM-3:30 PM Saturday June 22 for Teacher Training Day

●      Note: The hours will be flexible as the IT teacher will not be needed the entirety of each day, but will be needed at times within the timeframe 2-3 hrs/day or more as needed as determined by the teacher.

Salary:

40/hour
