Peninsula Family Service – Bilingual Clinical Consultant

The Bilingual Spanish/English Clinical Consultant for the Senior Peer Counseling Program conducts supervision groups for volunteer senior peer counselors at Peninsula Family Service in San Mateo and at the  Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center in Redwood City or other sites for 2 hours per session. Time may include set-up and individual consultation. This position is responsible for providing support and feedback to volunteer senior peer counselors who meet with isolated older adults in the community. Good communication skills in both languages is very important. The position provides PFS with information on volunteer counselor attendance at supervision meetings, and any problems for counselor issues, client assignments and changes in client assignments, completion and return of client assessments, client status and signed consent and HIPAA forms.

Clinical supervisors provide up to 12 hours of supervision per month and the contract is renewed annually.  The position may also be responsible for facilitating 4-8 (3.5 hour) trainings per year in English and/or in Spanish. Also responsible for attending biannual meetings of the SPC Clinical Supervisors (4hours).

Position requires a licensed masters prepared social worker, psychologist, marriage family therapist  or psychiatrist with at least two years’ experience working with older adults. A comprehensive understanding of the medical, physical and psychosocial needs of older adults is required.

Peninsula Family Service has operated the Senior Peer Counseling Program since 2008.  The program, funded by San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, Sequoia Healthcare District and the Peninsula Healthcare District, provides support to lonely, isolated older adults in San Mateo County by matching trained and supervised peer volunteers to those who can benefit from the program. The program is charged with serving older adults who are underserved in this area, those who speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Filipino, and the African American and LGBTQ older adult communities.
