Peninsula Family Service – Food Service Worker

The Food Service Worker is responsible for the preparation of the healthy food program, including preparing and serving food to patrons at Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center. With assistance from the Site Director this position is responsible for coordinating and supervising any available Title V trainees and volunteers.

  • Compile monthly clinical accounts receivable records.

  • Put General Ledger income on computer monthly.

  • Record donor appeal and other donations.

  • Record nutrition and transportation fees daily.

  • Check and distribute W-2s.

  • Update leave book and time sheets.

  • Computer and office equipment knowledge.

  • Other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.


  1. Maintain a welcoming, gracious and professional manner at all times

  2. Spice up our community appetite with a delicious healthy brunch on Mondays, and share your healthy and nutritious breakfast ideas by creating and planning monthly menus and shopping list for healthy breakfast & Brunch program.

  3. Prepare the food for healthy breakfast & Brunch with assistance of Title V and Volunteers when they are available.

  4. Receive deliveries of hot food from caterer, Peninsula Volunteers, recording: time delivered, temperatures of food, verifying numbers of meals delivered and measurements of pans

  5. Train, orient and supervise Title V and volunteer staff

  6. Inventory supplies needed, complete and submit supply form in a timely manner

  7. Ensure participants are registered in the meal program before serving food

  8. Ensure that the following duties are completed each day in accordance to servsafe regulations:

  • Prepare coffee

  • Clean all kitchen counters.

  • Sweep and Mop Floors  (kitchen area)

  • Clean up floor in Dining Room if there is a spill (maintain a safe area)

  • Ensure dates on milk cartons and all food is safe (servsafe)

  • Drain water in the steam table at the completion of the meal

  • Serve meals to the participants

  • Clean dining room tables at the completion of the meal

  • Wash dishes and all utensils (servsafe)

  • Clean coffee makers

  • Maintain clean refrigerators and organized kitchen

  • Record refrigerators temp daily (servsafe)

  • Submit meal counts to supervisor by the 15th of each month

  • Create menu and coordinate with Associate Director/Site Director regarding all special events

  • Communicate with Peninsula Volunteers via email for food related issues such as: shortage of overage in food delivery, soiled food or other food related issues

  • Occasional outreach in the Community in order to increase participation at the center

  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings

  • Other duties assigned by supervisor


Part-Time, Non-exempt

Reports to:

Associate Director of Older Adult Services


Fair Oaks Older Adult Activity Center, Redwood City


  1. Obtain fingerprint clearance before first day of employment, and maintain

  2. Verification to legally work in the US upon hire and updated, if required

  3. Obtain Food Safety Certificate within the first three months of hire

  4. Current California Driver’s License and car to shop for supplies

  5. Prior to first day of employment, verification of a negative TB test and maintain verification as required
