Silicon Valley Urban Debate League – Digital Marketing Contractor

The Digital Marketing Contractor will create and deploy content for SVUDL’s school-year debate program and tournaments, the annual Summer Debate Institute (SDI), and special events engaging SVUDL’s network of supporters from the professional communities of Silicon Valley.  A highly collaborative colleague, the Digital Marketing Contractor will work successfully with SVUDL staff and students.

Responsibilities include the following:

Work with Executive Director and Director of Development to plan, execute, and analyze ongoing digital content creation and deployment for SVUDL’s programs and events, including and not limited to: social media channels, SVUDL website updates, and regular e-mail communications. Ensure consistency of SVUDL program brand look and feel, and messaging. Support acquisition and retention of students in the debate programs. Embed with the program team during the academic year and the summer season to photograph and video program activities and manage and execute social and digital engagement from the field. Meet regularly with Executive Director and Director of Development to report on progress, problem solve, brainstorm, and evaluate priorities.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Marketing Communications. Advertising, Digital Media or Journalism.

  • 3+ years of experience in Marketing and Communications; experience in agency or in-house environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Competencies:

  • Photography and videography, with editing capabilities.

  • Available to work evenings and weekends to attend events, and some regional travel from time to time

  • Effective written and verbal communications

  • Social Media and Digital Marketing Acumen

  • Project Management and Cross Department Collaboration

  • Affinity for Youth, Education and Diversity

  • Knowledge of debate programs, a plus 

Contract Terms:

  • Up to 20 hours per week (including some evenings and weekends to attend debate events)

  • Hourly fee commensurate with experience
