SSMC – Program Manager

Established in 1992, Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is a nonprofit dedicated to the long-term health of our county’s economy, environment and social equity by educating people about sustainability and empowering them to take action to implement sustainability measures, practices and projects. Our main goal is to accelerate sustainability adoption throughout San Mateo County.

JOB DUTIES

The Program Manager, Indicators Report, will work closely with the chair of the Indicators Report Committee and under the supervision of the Executive Director. He/she is responsible for managing the Indicators Report (IR) Program, including but not limited to:

  • Providing overall program management, including but not limited to: recruiting volunteers, ongoing formatting/updating format and guidelines of Research Guides for researchers, coordinating indicators researchers’ submissions, and verifying sources and correct uses of information

  • Actively participating in the Indicators Committee, presenting updates and reviewing project milestones. Participating in other SSMC meetings as requested

  • Performing background research (mostly secondary data), writing and editing portions of the key performance indicators around the 3 E’s (environment, social equity and economy) of sustainability

  • Updating and creating print and online content for the IR, with an emphasis on our 2019 Key Indicator: Climate Change – How do we respond? (both extensive online version and printed summary report)

  • Recruiting, managing and coordinating volunteers (researchers, charts editors, graphic designers, data scientists, events-related volunteers, etc.) involved with the IR program

  • Working with SSMC staff and volunteers to plan and execute the Indicators Launch event and other public events related to our indicators program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion for sustainability and commitment to Sustainable San Mateo County’s goals

  • Education: Degree in Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Political Science, Sociology or a related degree. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum 5 years in research field, preferably in sustainability (both design/implementation and writing expertise)

  • Project or program management experience

  • Self-motivated, responsible and able to work independently

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Understanding and familiarity with sustainability issues, specifically as they relate to San Mateo County and generally to the San Francisco Bay Area

  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, ability to multitask

  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities, diplomatic and conciliatory skills

  • Preferred: event planning and volunteers management experience

  • Web/computer savvy is essential; experience with MS Office, Internet, social media, database management, WordPress required; experience with ConstantContact preferred

  • Preference for candidates able to support web publishing and/or design work

HOURS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Contract position without benefits

  • $30 – $35 per hour depending on experience with hours not to exceed 500 hrs (unless authorized by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors)

  • Engagement from present to April 30, 2020
