The East Palo Alto youth program director will supervise, manage, and support a small team of program facilitators that lead our East Palo Alto youth programs. Programs are located at Sequoia Union High School District and Ravenswood City School District. The director must also build and maintain positive relationships with other YCS employees, district employees, and community partners.
Hour/Salary Range: 40 hours per week/DOE

Youth Community Service (YCS) engages sixth to twelfth grade students in meaningful service-based learning. YCS students build leadership and life skills, empathy for the needs of others, and a sense of connectedness, purpose and efficacy, while making a positive difference in the lives of those around them.
Summary and Position Responsibilities:
Sequoia District High School Programs: –Are school day classes in which students receive elective credits upon completion. The Director works with administrators and school staff at each site to decide program logistics and assigns program facilitators based on best fit. The Director provides coverage, curriculum and classroom management support to facilitators. The Director also works closely with program facilitators to keep them and their students engaged in YCS and other community events. Program success is based on the student academic and personal development.
Ravenswood Middle School Programs: — Are based in the after-school setting. The Director is responsible for collaborating with site coordinators for logistics of program delivery at each school. The Director supports the Program Facilitator with implementation of curriculum, field and service trip planning, coverage, and classroom management. Program success is measured through surveys and student records. In addition to the after-school classes, YCS leads 6-week cycle(s) of Youth Leadership Academy provided to middle school students throughout the district.
Youth Leaders About Change (YLAC): — Is an after-school advanced leadership program at Menlo-Atherton High School in which students develop leadership skills, and design and implement service-learning projects with the guidance of a program facilitator. The Director is responsible for assisting with student recruitment and program logistics. The Director also provides management and support to the program facilitator.
YCS Quarterly Service Days: — Co-lead and take on elements of planning YCS events. Recruit program students, EPA staff, and partners to participate in quarterly service days.
YCS Service Shout Support: — Support YCS staff in producing and distributing a monthly newsletter of service opportunities for local youth. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring East Palo Alto staff and students receive and utilize the Shout Out each month.
Collaborative Groups & Partnerships: — The Director participates in meetings associated with One East Palo Alto’s Youth Empowerment Strategies for Success, Menlo-Atherton Partners for Success, and District Student Support Services.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively as a team member.
Outgoing and comfortable meeting with parents, youth, administrators, and community partners.
Desire to learn and try new things.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience working around youth organizations or educational institutions.
A passionate commitment to service learning and overcoming educational inequities.
Experience working in diverse communities.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Prior experience working in a professional office environment preferred.
Flexible and positive.
Exercise excellent judgment, diplomacy and sensitivity to all constituents.
Ability to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously and manage the details related to each.
Working knowledge of Macintosh, Microsoft Word, and Excel required.
Valid CA drivers license and reliable transportation for fieldwork.
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Submit a copy of their DMV record and drivers license and automobile insurance.
Clearance results from a TB test and place fingerprints on record through LiveScan.
Current certifications in First Aid and CPR or be willing obtain within 30 days of hire.
