Children & Education TAG

This affinity group meets monthly and feature speakers and facilitated dialogue, sourcing expertise and content from both the community and from institutional partners in academic, government, and philanthropy. This series is made possible through the generous support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

This group continues the work of the Out of School Time Task Force, which evolved into the Learning Hub Initiative. In partnership with the Community Equity Collaborative, the task force successfully secured $1.5M for learning hub providers from the County.

  • Focus: Mitigating learning loss through a multitude of nonprofit activities, ranging from learning hubs to summer programs

  • Who: Providers and partners who work in these spaces to benefit children in San Mateo County are invited to join

  • Co-facilitators: Evan Jones, Executive Director, Mid-Peninsula Boys & Girls Club (and an active organizer of the OST Task Force, now the Learning Hub Initiative) and Heather Cleary, CEO, Peninsula Family Service (and anchor of Thrive’s Children & Education TAG)

Thank you to our series partners, including Community Equity Collaborative, InPlay, Stanford Haas Center for Public Service, Supervisor Dave Pine’s Office, and Supervisor Carole Groom’s Office.

A smaller Program Committee group meets every other week to plan upcoming Thrive Action Groups (TAGs). If you are interested in joining the Program Committee for the Children & Education TAG, or if you have ideas or recommendations for future events, please contact Thrive’s Programs & Operations Manager, Keirstan.

Goals of the Peer Learning Series

  • Provide a space for providers to share effective practices and to learn from peers, from experts in the field, and from those investing in the work via government and philanthropy

  • Strengthen ties between providers and school districts

  • Build the Learning Hub provider community and supporting those that wish to create and expand hubs

  • Support providers as they prepare for summer programs in the midst of the pandemic

  • Facilitate dialogue on equity issues that are unique to the provider space (LH is one example) and provide opportunities to co-create more equitable solutions

  • Centralize existing data and identify new sources of data on mitigating learning loss
