Samaritan House: Vice President, Programs and Services

Samaritan House is looking for a Vice President of Programs and Services to work under the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and help oversee various operations, including Food Programs, Client Services, Shelter Operations, and the Worker Resource Center. The ideal candidate should be a credible and compassionate leader capable of guiding staff to achieve meaningful results while making financially responsible decisions. It’s vital for the VP to possess emotional intelligence and self-confidence to harness each team member's strengths, ensuring that the organization maintains its passion for its mission and fosters a collaborative culture. Additionally, this role includes fiscal responsibilities for assigned programs, participation in the Executive Team to formulate strategies, and support in community relations and advancement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Programmatic and fiscal growth: Increasing the capacity (structurally and fiscally) of the organization to better serve the needs of the community within assigned programs

  • Expense Control and cost reduction: Effectively manage costs to support decision making around program growth, finances and investments

  • Increased Productivity: Assess and enhance productivity at all levels of the assigned operations to achieve organizational goals

  • Capital Expenditure planning for assigned programs (in partnership with COO and CFO): Develop plans for capital expenditures in partnership with COO and CFO as needed; develop and monitor the annual budget for assigned program areas, meet budget goals, review financial performance and improve program budgeting, monitoring, and reporting practices

  • Management of assigned Operations: Manage the operations of the assigned programs and inform and advise the C0O and Executive Team on those areas; specifically having oversight of Shelter Services, Client Services and sub programs, Food Services, and the Worker Resource Center (Day Labor Program).

  • Promoting the Organization: Represent Samaritan House in the community and serve as an ambassador to partners, funders, donors and public officials

  • Monitoring Progress: Monitor current projects including reporting status, progress updates, and identifying areas that require corrective action

  • Building the Culture: Work in close partnership with the Human Resources Department, managing the team, interviewing, onboarding, training, developing strategies for talent management & development at all levels, and coaching current and emerging program leaders

  • Perform all agency work with highest of ethical standards, excellent integrity and with clear professional boundaries

  • Assist with the maintenance of a safe work environment for all and report any incidents or safety issues immediately (at a minimum within 24 hours)

  • Support, assist and attend general Agency events, activities and functions- internal and external.

  • Attend any assigned trainings or meetings internal or external- represent Samaritan House positively and professionally.

  • Support C0O with other duties within the organization as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Non-Profit Management, or a related field is desired. Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of education.

Experience

  • Experience working for a Non-Profit Organization

  • Experience with program development, planning, implementation and delivery

  • 5+ years’ work experience in Social Services Non-Profits, including development and management of both programs and staff

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired but not required.

  • Ability to conduct business within agency values and professionalism; exercise appropriate judgment and decision making under stressful conditions is required.

  • Established ability to conduct business with a high degree of integrity and ethics. Maintain and operate within confidentiality policies for industry and agency.

  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and prioritization skills required

  • Strong Communication Skills are required. Candidate must be able to consistently, regularly, effectively and clearly communicate with constituents and staff with diverse experiences.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; excellent initiative and ability to work independently and with teams; and ability to identify and resolve issues proactively

  • Candidate must be able to travel between the Agency’s various sites; have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record and have a registered and insured vehicle

  • Ability to adapt to changes swiftly and successfully and respond to delays or unexpected events in the work environment; ability to manage competing demands and prioritize tasks; ability to change approach or method to best fit the situation

  • Ability to maintain focus for extended periods of time;

  • Ability to consistently and reliably work all scheduled hours

  • Ability to create and maintain excellent relationships with all constituents, and deliver excellent customer service

  • Awareness of, and sensitivity to, Samaritan House clients’ cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic characteristics

Compensation

  • $160K-$170K
