AgeUp: Ombudsman Volunteer

AgeUp is seeking an Ombudsman Volunteer. The role of the Ombudsman Representative involves mediating and negotiating to ensure that issues are resolved, allowing elders to remain safe and well cared for.

AgeUp leads the charge for dignity, justice, and well-being for older adults and people with disabilities. Built on the trusted foundation of Ombudsman Services of San Mateo County, we’ve expanded our mission — protecting residents’ rights while creating new pathways for education, support, and community connection.

Responsibilities

  • Mediates and negotiates to resolve situations involving elders

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of the elder

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to advocate for the needs of elders

  • Patience and empathy in dealing with sensitive issues

  • Problem-solving skills to handle complex situations

  • Commitment to the values of care and respect for elders

Qualifications

  • Age 18+ with a car, driver's license, and insurance.

  • Must not have worked in a long-term care facility in the past 12 months

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • Training (education and shadowing)

  • Comfort with technology to enter visits and case information.
