Hidden Villa: Facilities Manager

Hidden Villa is seeking a Facilities Manager. The Facilities Manager is responsible for the daily maintenance needs and requests for all buildings, vehicles, and other facilities at Hidden Villa. This position reports to the Director of Land & Facilities (DLF). It is a working manager role, requiring candidates to participate in physically demanding skilled trade work, which may involve facilities, equipment, vehicles, trails, and landscaping, in addition to desk-based project planning tasks.

Hidden Villa is a nonprofit educational organization that uses its organic farm, wilderness, and community to teach and provide opportunities to learn about the environment and social justice. Hidden Villa stretches over 1600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 40 miles south of San Francisco. Hidden Villa's mission is to foster educational experiences that build connections and inspire a deeper appreciation and respect for nature, food, and one another.

Responsibilities

  • Timely response on repairs and maintenance requests for Hidden Villa land and buildings, including:

    • Repair of gates, fencing, steps, decks, and buildings around the ranch

    • Planning and scheduling contractors to conduct repairs in partnership with the DLF

    • Minor repairs for equipment and vehicle maintenance

    • Weed whacking, mowing, and other outdoor maintenance

    • Tree and trail maintenance work

  • Management of Maintenance Technicians, including close work on facility maintenance projects

  • Maintain regular vehicle inspection and maintenance logs and schedule maintenance

  • Management of the shop area and maintenance of all tools and equipment

  • Maintain roads and parking lots

  • Careful management and disposal of all environmental waste to ensure alignment with regulation and alignment to HV’s environmental stewardship practices

  • Management of trash disposal systems and vendors on the ranch

  • Coordination of septic maintenance, water systems and portable toilet rentals

  • Perform regular emergency equipment inspection, training, ordering and maintenance (AEDs, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, smoke detectors, etc

  • Purchase of items needed for repair and maintenance (door knobs, light bulbs, other materials)

  • Perform all Move-Out Inspections for residential employees and coordinate deposit return with Human Resources if left in satisfactory condition

  • Periodic assistance with events including: furniture relocation, landscaping, trash removal and set-up/take-down of chairs and tables

  • Support Summer Camp facilities operations including weekly pool maintenance June-August

  • Train and check-off staff drivers on any and all vehicles they will be driving

  • Attend regular staff and department meetings

  • Lead and manage property related volunteer projects

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in maintenance, electrical, plumbing or other construction trades

  • Experience managing facility repairs, maintenance, and remodeling projects

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, codes and OSHA regulations

  • Certification or demonstrated knowledge of maintenance management best practices

  • Experience with digital tools, including Google Workspace and online work order systems

  • Proficiency in using general tools and power tools

  • Ability to operate tools and heavy machinery, including tractors, trucks and trailers

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems

  • Demonstrated experience running small maintenance teams 

  • Strong generalist maintenance skills (carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical troubleshooting). Licensed or certified trade experience is a plus

  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required

  • Willingness to work independently, outdoors, and in physically demanding situations

Compensation

  • This position is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $72,000-$75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This position is fully benefited, including paid time off, health insurance and retirement. All applicants will be required to complete a background check and Live Scan fingerprinting before hire. Due to the nature of Hidden Villa’s operations, work hours may vary. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
