Avenidas: Vice President of Programs

Avenidas is seeking a Vice President of Programs to lead the organization’s programmatic vision and strategy dedicated to supporting older adults and their caregivers. This senior leadership position, reporting to the President/CEO, will manage a diverse portfolio of services across four key areas: Enrichment & Connection, Health & Wellbeing, Caregiving Support & Social Work Services, and Navigation & Support Services. The ideal candidate will bring a forward-looking perspective to address the evolving needs of older adults, transforming that vision into innovative, high-impact programming. The VP of Programs will ensure alignment with Avenidas' mission and strategic objectives, focusing on measurable outcomes and community needs. As an executive team member, this individual will be both a strategist and a people-centered leader, fostering collaboration within teams and building strong external partnerships. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential to inspire staff, engage stakeholders, and position Avenidas as a thought leader in the field of older adult services.

Responsibilities

Program Vision, Strategy & Innovation 20%

● Define and lead a compelling, future-oriented vision for programs that anticipates and responds to the changing needs of older adults.

● Set strategic direction across all program areas: Enrichment & Connection, Health & Wellbeing, Caregiving Support & Social Work Services, and Navigating & Support Services, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

● Identify emerging trends, service gaps, and opportunities for innovation; pilot and scale new program models that enhance impact and sustainability.

● Partner with the President/CEO to establish long-term growth strategies with clear programmatic goals and success metrics.

Program Impact & Performance Management 15%

● Establish and implement meaningful metrics and evaluation frameworks to measure program effectiveness, outcomes, and community impact.

● Use data and insights to drive continuous improvement, inform decision-making, and communicate results to internal and external stakeholders.

● Ensure accountability for program performance, including setting targets, monitoring progress, and making strategic adjustments as needed.

People Leadership & Team Development 25%

● Lead, mentor, and develop a team of program leaders, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.

● Build strong, trust-based relationships across teams, emphasizing clear communication, shared goals, and mutual support.

● Strengthen leadership capacity within program areas through coaching, feedback, and professional development.

● Champion an inclusive and engaging work environment that reflects organizational values.

Operational & Cross-Functional Leadership 25%

● Partner with Finance, Development, Marketing, and other internal teams to align program strategy with resource development, budgeting, and organizational operations.

● Provide strategic oversight of program budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources in support of priorities and impact.

● Collaborate on revenue strategies, including grant development and funding diversification, to sustain and grow program offerings.

● Ensure operational excellence across programs, balancing innovation with consistency, quality, and compliance.

● Partner closely with the President/CEO on external partnership strategy; support the ongoing stewardship, deepening, and expansion of key relationships to maximize programmatic impact.

Growth & Resource Development 15%

● Partner with Development to shape program narratives, identify funding opportunities, and support grant strategy and positioning.

● Oversee programmatic input into grant proposals and reporting, ensuring alignment with impact goals and outcomes.

● Identify opportunities for earned revenue, partnerships, and program expansion that support long-term sustainability.

● Lead government grant proposals and reporting, working with grant writers as able for identifying and developing proposals.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

● Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience, including oversight of multi-faceted programs or service lines.

● Experience in the nonprofit sector and/or aging services strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

● Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.

● Strong people leadership skills, with a track record of building high-performing, collaborative teams.

● Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

● Experience using data and evaluation to drive decision-making and continuous improvement.

● Financial and operational acumen, including experience managing budgets and aligning resources with strategy.

● High level of professionalism, judgment, and integrity.

● Proficiency with standard business and communication tools.

● Duties may require evening and weekend hours occasionally.

● Frequent stand/walk, sit, use a computer, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

● Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.

Compensation

  • Pay: $175,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
