Our Programs

Thrive unites the voice of nonprofits and strengthens the sector through three program areas: Capacity Building, Policy and Advocacy, and Community Resilience.

Capacity Building

Nonprofits are on the frontlines of addressing complex community needs, yet many face persistent challenges such as limited staffing, leadership transitions, and resource constraints. Thrive Alliance’s Capacity Building services are designed to meet these challenges head-on, ensuring that local nonprofits have the tools, connections, and knowledge necessary to strengthen the sustainability and impact of organizations, which in turn reinforces the overall health of the nonprofit sector. Guided by Thrive’s institutional knowledge and strong local partnerships, these programs are grounded in the realities that local organizations face, ensuring that support is practical, relevant, and responsive to the needs of nonprofits working in our community.

Policy & Advocacy

Thrive Alliance’s Policy & Advocacy work amplifies the collective voice of San Mateo County’s nonprofit sector to advance equity, resilience, sustainability, and a vibrant democracy. Through education, coalition-building, and strategic partnerships, Thrive builds bridges between community-based organizations, policymakers, and residents to ensure local decisions reflect real community needs and lived experience. By convening policy forums and coordinating countywide advocacy, Thrive translates on-the-ground insight into measurable improvements in services, funding, and accountability. Whether supporting nonprofits in times of crisis or leading civic engagement efforts, Thrive equips organizations with the knowledge, relationships, and tools to shape policy and create a more just, thriving region for all.

Community Resilience

Community resilience refers to the ability of a community to prepare for anticipated hazards, adapt to changing conditions, and withstand and recover rapidly from crises. For Thrive Alliance, community resilience is developed equitably and incorporates the importance of local knowledge, capacity building, and participatory development to foster thriving, climate-resilient communities across the region. From coordinating Thrive RISE, the COAD for San Mateo County, to leading in climate adaptation programs like the annual Climate Summit for San Mateo County, we connect partners to strengthen our region’s collective resilience.
