Community Resilience

Community resilience refers to the ability of a community to prepare for anticipated hazards, adapt to changing conditions, and withstand and recover rapidly from crises. For Thrive Alliance, community resilience is developed equitably and incorporates the importance of local knowledge, capacity building, and participatory development to foster thriving, climate-resilient communities across the region. From coordinating Thrive RISE, the COAD for San Mateo County, to leading in climate adaptation programs like the annual Climate Summit for San Mateo County, we connect partners to strengthen our region’s collective resilience.

Thrive RISE

Thrive RISE (Resilience in Shared Emergencies) is a coalition of Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) for San Mateo County. Thrive RISE enhances community resilience and facilitates communication, coordination, and collaboration among nonprofit and faith-based organizations, government agencies, and the private sector during all phases of a disaster.

Environment & Sustainability

We are eager to grow our sustainability initiatives and welcome discussions with other nonprofits and community-based organizations on potential collaborations. Whether through regional advocacy or neighborhood-level resilience hubs, we invite you to partner with us in building a stronger, more equitable San Mateo County.

Disaster & Risk Resources

Community risk to natural hazards is understood as the level of exposure to the hazard multiplied by the level of social vulnerability within a community. Understanding current hazard exposures, patterns of social vulnerability and community underinvestment, as well as how both hazards and social vulnerability evolve over time, can help community members and organizations make informed risk reduction decisions. This data can also help direct response and recovery resources to communities expected to be most impacted by disasters.
