Nuestra Casa: On-call Promotor/a
Nuestra Casa is seeking an On-call Promotor/a to fill the role of a trained substitute for their outreach team. This position requires stepping in for absent team members when notified by the Community Outreach Program Director, with shifts typically ranging from two to five hours and varying in notice from same-day to weeks in advance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, an ability to retain and effectively convey information, trust-building abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City. They should be committed to providing respectful, professional service and promoting collaborative teamwork.
About Nuestra Casa:
Nuestra Casa has been serving the needs of the immigrant Latinx population of East Palo Alto and surrounding communities since 2002. Our organization rose out of a community assessment conducted by a group of local activists who were concerned about the growing needs of the rising immigrant population. Today, Nuestra Casa is positioned as the premier Latinx serving nonprofit in our community. Over the past five years, our growth has allowed us to expand our services and programming into neighboring communities like Menlo Park (Belle Haven region), North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City. Through our advocacy efforts, we also reach other communities in San Mateo County.
Responsibilities
Perform community outreach through tabling, canvassing, and door-to-door engagement.
Connect with community members to help them access resources and build lasting relationships between families and the organization.
Register community members for events, workshops, or meetings to encourage participation and involvement.
Attend trainings and meetings to stay informed about Nuestra Casa's programs in environmental justice, resource navigation, and housing.
Complete paperwork, reports, and documentation required by the program.
Follow all safety rules, policies, and regulations to maintain a safe environment.
Occasionally work in the office to support program operations.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's mission.
Qualifications
Committed to Nuestra Casa's mission, values, and the communities we serve.
High school diploma preferred; relevant work or community experience may be substituted.
Available to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, with reliable local transportation.
Knowledgeable about the communities of East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, Redwood City, North Fair Oaks, and surrounding areas.
Desired Skills/Ability To
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, fluency in Spanish required.
Able to complete basic documentation and reports accurately and on time.
Organized and able to manage time effectively in a flexible, on-call work environment.
Comfortable using office equipment and computers, including Google Workspace and Zoom.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build trust enthusiastically with community members.
Physical Demands and Special Requirements
This is an active, field-based role requiring the ability to move between community sites, remain on your feet for extended periods, and occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds. The position involves regular use of a computer and phone, local travel, and working outdoors in varying conditions, including evenings and weekends. Work takes place across multiple community locations. Compensation
$20.70-27.60

Accrued paid sick leave in accordance with California labor laws. Employees may accrue and use up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per year, based on hours worked.
401(k) retirement plan with employer match: 100% match on the first 3% you contribute, then 50% on contributions from 3%–5%. Eligible after 90 days of employment
