SafeSpace Center INC.: Fundraising Strategy Board Member

SafeSpace Center Inc. is seeking a Fundraising Strategy Board Member. They are looking for an individual to help develop and implement a clear and focused fundraising strategy that emphasizes foundation funding and corporate giving in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. This is a volunteer position on the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate should be based in or have strong connections to San Mateo County, with a preference for candidates from San Mateo County.

Key Responsibilities

The Fundraising Strategy Board Member will work with the Board Chair, board members, and staff leadership to:

  • Help develop a focused fundraising strategy for SafeSpace Center

  • Identify foundation and/or corporate funding opportunities that align with SafeSpace Center’s mission

  • Help prioritize which funding opportunities to pursue

  • Open doors to local foundations and/or corporate giving programs when possible

  • Advise on outreach, cultivation, funding opportunities, and stewardship

  • Help the board become more focused and effective in supporting fundraising

  • Serve as an ambassador for SafeSpace Center’s mission and impact

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has experience with one or more of the following:

  • Foundation funding

  • Corporate giving or corporate social responsibility

  • Local philanthropy in San Mateo County or Santa Clara County

  • Nonprofit fundraising strategy

  • Experience working with foundations, corporate giving programs, or nonprofit fundraising teams

The right person does not need to have experience in every area listed above. We are looking for someone who is strategic, thoughtful, comfortable making introductions when appropriate, and interested in helping SafeSpace Center grow its impact.

Board Expectations

As a member of the Board of Directors, this person would be expected to:

  • Attend board meetings, which are held four times per year

  • Actively participate in fundraising strategy discussions

  • Help identify potential foundation and/or corporate supporters

  • Make introductions when appropriate

  • Provide strategic guidance around fundraising

  • Serve as an advocate for SafeSpace Center in the community

Time Commitment

Approximately 15 hours per month for fundraising strategy work, outreach, and follow-up. Board meetings are held four times per year in Rewood City and are 2 hours long. They are in addition to this monthly fundraising role.

SafeSpace Center is looking through trusted referrals first. Candidates may be asked to provide a resume or LinkedIn profile, along with references related to nonprofit, foundation, corporate giving, or board experience.
