YMCA of Silicon Valley: Executive Director - Sequoia YMCA

The YMCA of Silicon Valley is seeking an Executive Director for Sequoia YMCA. The Executive Director is a strategic leader responsible for managing the facilities and operational areas within the YMCA, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and delivering impactful results. This role also includes providing direct supervision and mentorship to the leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence. The Executive Director will oversee all operations of the YMCA branch, which includes membership, programming, facilities management, staff and volunteer development, financial development and fundraising, as well as community relations and collaboration with local agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Personally represents and promotes the YMCA as a transformational leader in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.

  • Develops, maintains, and models collaborative relationships with community agencies and residents throughout the service delivery area to ensure equity and community voice in all programs.

  • Coordinates the development of the branch board and committees. Directs the policy and program volunteer activities of the branch.

  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch. Personally cultivates donors and secures gifts.

  • Informed by market trends and consumer feedback, operates from a growth context to develop and operate high quality and innovative programs.

  • Oversees the hiring, training, development, coaching, and supervision of staff, and leads a learning culture of innovation, equity, accountability, and professional growth.

  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget and meet or exceeds budget targets.

  • Directs branch strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.

  • Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.

  • Ensure comprehensive abuse risk management by enforcing adherence to policies and procedures; responding promptly to violations and reports of suspicious behavior; fulfilling mandated reporting requirements; communicating the organization's commitment to protection; and reporting essential information to the board of directors.

  • Serves as a member of Y leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Actively walk-through facility/program engaging with members/participants, keeping vigilant for potential health and/or safety risks, and clean/disinfect and put away equipment/supplies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.

  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.

  • Ability to lead total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, and program development. Experience with digital programming preferred.

  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.

  • Ability to effectively supervise & communicate and collaborate in a multi-faceted matrix management environment.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations. YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.

Compensation

  • SALARY RANGE: $135,000.00 - $145,000.00/year
