NAMI San Mateo County: Youth Programs Outreach Coordinator
NAMI San Mateo County is seeking a Youth Programs Outreach Coordinator to lead the planning and implementation of youth-focused programs, including Ending the Silence (ETS), FLARE, and Me in Mind. These initiatives provide engaging mental health presentations to elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as faculty, administrators, and parents. The Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and training volunteer presenters, coordinating partnerships with schools and communities, preparing presentation materials, and reporting program data. This role requires collaboration with NAMI staff, volunteers, and school partners to effectively reduce stigma and enhance access to mental health education throughout the county.
About NAMI San Mateo County:
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) San Mateo County (SMC), was founded in 1974 as the Parents of Adult Schizophrenics. The organization was subsequently renamed the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of San Mateo County, until its reformation in 1979 as the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI SMC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) exempt organization governed by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of family members who have a loved one with a mental illness and other interested parties involved in the local mental health community. As an independently operating nonprofit, NAMI San Mateo County receives no funding from NAMI National nor NAMI California.
Responsibilities
Outreach & Community Partnerships
Develop and implement outreach strategies to expand ETS and FLARE program reach across high schools, middle schools, and community venues; create and maintain outreach materials including flyers and school-facing communications for each program.
Serve as a key point of contact for school and community partners across all three youth programs, fostering relationships that support scheduling, participation, and ongoing engagement.
Promote NAMI San Mateo County's full range of youth and family services including support groups, education programs, and community resources during school outreach and follow-up communications.
Support social media promotion of program presentations and milestones across ETS, FLARE, and Me in Mind; track program material inventory and flag replenishment needs to the Director of Education and Volunteer Recruitment.
Ending the Silence (ETS) — Presenter Recruitment & Training
Recruit, screen, and onboard qualified lead presenters and young adult presenters (ages 18–35) using the NAMI Presenter Screening Tool and Application; ensure all are active NAMI members or have a nami.org account prior to training.
Recommend presenters for NAMI online training through the NAMI Portal and plan in-person practice sessions within 30 days of online training completion.
Maintain regular communication with presenters to coordinate logistics, support their development, and sustain engagement.
Ending the Silence (ETS) — Presentation Scheduling & Coordination
Conduct outreach to middle schools, high schools, and community organizations to schedule ETS presentations for students, faculty, administrators, and parents across San Mateo County.
Serve as the primary point of contact for school and site partners, managing all logistics communications and preparing complete presentation packets (evaluations, resource cards, giveaways, reporting forms, equipment).
Send the teacher resource guide to school contacts 1–2 days prior to each presentation.
Ending the Silence (ETS) — Data, Reporting & Program Compliance
Collect Presentation Reporting Forms and participant evaluations from presenters within one week of each presentation and enter data into the NAMI 720 reporting site within that same timeframe.
Maintain accurate program records and track outcomes to support organizational reporting, grant requirements, and continuous improvement.
Share program successes, participant feedback, and challenges with program leadership.
FLARE and Me in Mind Program Support
Support promotion and community partnership communications for the FLARE and Me in Mind programs.
Collaborate with NAMI staff and volunteers to support participant engagement and program delivery, contributing to the organization's shared goal of reducing stigma and expanding youth mental health education countywide.
Qualifications
• Experience in program coordination, community outreach, education, or a related field preferred.
• Familiarity with mental health topics and a passion for reducing stigma in diverse communities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to build relationships with schools, volunteers, and community partners.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders independently.
• Comfort with data entry and online reporting tools.
• Lived experience with mental health conditions or experience supporting a loved one with a mental health condition is a plus.
• Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to school and community sites throughout San Mateo County.
Compensation
This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position at 15 hours per week. The hourly pay range for this role is $24.00–$27.00, depending on qualifications and experience. This is the good-faith pay scale NAMI San Mateo County reasonably expects to pay for this position, as required under California law (Labor Code § 432.3).
