James Coleman

James Coleman is a dedicated public servant and lifelong resident of South San Francisco. He attended local public schools before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology with a minor in Government from Harvard University. His background includes interning at Bayer Berkeley, contributing to neuroscience research at Massachusetts General Hospital, and supporting organizations focused on climate education and environmental justice.

In 2020, James was elected to the South San Francisco City Council, becoming the city’s youngest-ever and first openly LGBTQ+ councilmember. He served as Mayor in 2024 and is passionate about affordable housing policy, early childhood education, addressing climate change, and making South San Francisco a safe and enjoyable place to live. He also serves on the Board of Directors at WestLight Energy and HEART of San Mateo County. 

As a Legislative Aide for District 2, James brings his experience in local government, public service, and community engagement to his work supporting San Mateo County residents. He is committed to strengthening connections across the community and advancing priorities that support the people and neighborhoods he serves.
